Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning for Horry County effective at midnight Jan. 21 and a winter storm advisory for Georgetown County. The advisories remain in place through noon Saturday.

Horry County moved to OPCON 2, declared a local state of emergency and activated their emergency operations center remotely Thursday afternoon.

The NWS said freezing rain could start as early as 6 a.m. for inland Horry County with later start times expected closer to the coast. Impacts from the storm will increase throughout the day Friday and continue into Saturday.

Significant icing is expected with total ice accumulations forecast between .20 inches and .30 inches. Some areas may see higher amounts.

The NWS discourages travel during the storm. Power outages and tree damage are possible.

The chamber office will be closed Friday, though employees will be teleworking as able. Government offices throughout Horry County also announced closures for Friday.

Georgetown County will close their offices and facilities at noon Friday with the exception of parks and recreation facilities which will be closed all day. Landfill and community recycling centers in Georgetown county will close at 1 p.m. Friday with the recycling centers reopening at noon Saturday. Additionally, all Georgetown County Library branches will be closed Saturday.

The South Carolina Dept. of Health and Environmental Control said testing and vaccination clinics may close or change hours depending on the weather conditions. DHEC recommends using the contact information listed on and to confirm hours before going.

Gold Studios Destroyed By Fire

WMIR-FM was impacted by the devisataing fire that destroyed several office spaces on the Parkway Professional Building, at the corner of Grissom Parkway and 48th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.

The fire ravaged our offices and studios shortly after 8pm on Tuesday, October 26, resulting in the loss of audio and broadcast capabilities for almost 24 hours. While our studios are a complete loss, we managed to patch audio from our Bolivia, North Carolina transmitter location to our Myrtle Beach and Georgetown transmitter locations. This means that while we do not have a physical sstudio right now, we are still able to broadcast remotely.

While our FM signals have returned, we are not able to stream on the iHeart Radio App or our website for the time being. However, you can listen to our sister station WHGM Gold, located in Maryland, also on the iHeart Radio App HERE.

We would like to thank the first responders from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department who worked tirelessly through the night and into the next morning to extinguish the flames and assist businesses tenants in retrieving items from their offices.
