Brave Like Bryson 5K

From 9:00AM to 11:00AM

In October 2021, 5 year old Gavin Blount was diagnosed with brain cancer. Only 3 months later, in January 2022, his 3 year old little brother Bryson was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia. Both Gavin and Bryson were diagnosed with CMMRD, or Constitutional Mismatch Repair Deficiency, which makes both boys predisposed to developing cancer. Treatment began immediately for both boys. Sadly, in February 2023, Gavin passed away at the age of 6, with his family by his side. Only 6 days after losing his big brother, Bryson’s blood work revealed that his Leukemia had returned, and it was more aggressive than the last time. Months of treatments, hospital stays, surgeries, tests, etc for both boys have led to HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS in medical bills for Bryson’s family. Bryson is scheduled to have a bone marrow transplant in January 2024. This will only add to the family’s financial burden, and they are greatly struggling to keep up with the bills and copays. It is the mission of the Brave Like Bryson 5K to raise money to provide financial assistance to the Blount Family, as well as bring awareness to childhood cancer.

Kitten Shower

From 12:00PM to 4:00PM

Become a Kitten Hero at the Humane Society of Harford County

Kitten Shower Set for April 13

Prepare yourself: the kittens are coming! The Humane Society of Harford County (HSHC) is hearing the pitter patter of lots of little paws and needs help preparing for kitten season – the time of year when animal shelters are overrun by kittens because birth rates are higher. The community is invited to a fun-filled Kitten Shower on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 12:00PM at the shelter at 2208 Connolly Road in Fallston.

“Kitten season sounds like a cute and magical fairy tale,” said Danielle Holbrook, HSHC’s alternative placement manager. “But when newborn kittens start coming in one after another, it can quickly become overwhelming. The kitten shower is a fun way to raise awareness of the issue, recruit new foster parents, and stock our cabinets with all the supplies we need to be ready.”

The shower will kick-off at noon with a brief presentation about caring for newborn kittens followed by games, door prizes, refreshments, and a chance to meet other foster parents and sign up for the shelter’s foster program.

Admission to the event is a donation from HSHC’s gift registry at harfordshelter.org/kittenshower. Items on the list include kitten food, non-clumping kitty litter, powdered kitten milk replacer, and bottles. Gift cards to area pet stores and monetary donations are also appreciated.

Last summer, HSHC took in an average of 12.7 kittens per week that were under the age of 8 weeks, which is the legal age at which kittens can be adopted. “Many of these kittens had no mothers and needed to be bottle fed every 2-4 hours, around the clock,” Holbrook says. “It’s very labor-intensive, and when there are more kittens than we have foster homes or supplies for? That’s what keeps shelter workers up at night.”

“Anyone can become a hero this kitten season, no matter their age, ability or resources,” Holbrook says. “A $5 donation buys a few cans of kitten food. An old fleece blanket that’s laying around at home can keep a litter of kittens warm. Your spare bedroom can even become a safe and cozy kitten nursery.”

Can’t make it to the shower? The shelter has a kitten registry at Amazon.com, Chewy.com, and Walmart.com. Donations can be shipped to the shelter at 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD 21047 or dropped off on the following days/times: Monday through Friday from 11am – 6pm; Saturday from 10am – 5pm; and Sundays from 11am – 4pm.

Johnny Contardo of Sha Na Na is coming to Myrtle Beach High School for one night only

From 7:00PM to 8:45PM

I am excited to announce that online ticket sales for the Johnny Contardo (former lead singer for the Rock Band Sha Na Na) performance next April 13, 2024 at 7:00pm at the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Arts Center are now live. Johnny starred in the movie Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. He sang six songs with Sha Na Na performing as Johnny Casino and the Gamblers. Johnny had a number one hit single from that movie called Those Magic Changes. The older crowd, 65 years old and over, will know who he is and will want to drive the two hours to three hours or more to see him. This is the first time he has come to perform in South Carolina. He's 71 years old and still in fine voice. I am a private citizen who has been trying for five years to get Johnny to come to Myrtle Beach and we are finally almost there. We just need to sell out the house so that we can give a nice fat check to GratefulHearts.org, a wonderful charity. The link to the ticketing page and the QR code are included below. Please feel free to advertise this show on your network(s) as a public service and post on your social media sites and anywhere that you think there would be interested fans. This event will provide 10% of the proceeds to GratefulHearts.org (a 501(c)3 non profit charity dedicated to helping those needing a second chance and a helping hand to get back on their feet. Any help or direction you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much! Chuck Taylor Charles Taylor Musical Promotions LLC https://ci.ovationtix.com/36787/performance/11379630
