The Platters, The Drifters and the Coasters at the Alabama Theater

The Platters were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era with 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including four no.1 hits. Enjoy songs such as "The Great Pretender", "Twilight Time", "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "My Prayer" and "Only You".

The legend of Clyde McPhatter’s Drifters continues today with the founder's son, Ronn David McPhatter. Together they perform all of The Drifters' biggest songs, “Under the Boardwalk”, “This Magic Moment”, “Up on the Roof”, “Save The Last Dance for Me” and more music loved by generations.

The Coasters are an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group that had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doo-wop, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo-wop legacy through the 1960s. They became known as the "Clown Princes of Rock N Roll" for their humorous rock and roll songs with a solid rhythm and blues underpinning. You'll hear their hits like "Yakety Yak", "Charlie Brown", "Searchin'" and "Young Blood".

SOS Spring Safari

Carolina Gold is proud to be a part of the SOS Spring Safari.

Check out the schedule of events here

Here is more information about the Spring Safari...

Each year at the end of April the coming of Spring is celebrated by thousands of shaggers from all along the east coast. They hit the road in search of wild life. Their destination is the famous little strip of sand known as the Grand Strand. After the long Winter, shaggers are eager for the first outing of the Summer. They find it at the SOS Spring Safari.

For 10 days the biggest adult party on the East Coast crashes into North Myrtle Beach like an ocean wave. A wide variety of activities is scheduled for the event. Many member clubs of the ACSC will schedule "tea parties" in the local lounges. The lounges themselves schedule special parties during the Safari. Popular bands show up along Main Street playing crowd favorites. Shag dance instructors will offer classes to the masses who are seeking to improve their skill or increase their repertoire of moves.

But the big attraction is the night life. As the sun goes down the animals of the Safari come out to play in the clubs along Main Street & OD. Old friends will seek each other out & new friends will be made. The night will be spent shag dancing to timeless music that moves the soul.

On the last Saturday of SOS everyone meets on Main Street for the perennial favorite parade of the year, the ACSC Club's Parade. ACSC member clubs plan, design, & build parade floats for fun & a chance to win one of the coveted awards. There are award categories for best shag theme & most original float. The Spring Safari Parade always draws a huge crowd. Not only will the shaggers be out in force, but the beach locals stream to the streets for an afternoon of fun & laughter!

Win Tickets to See the Coasters, Drifters and Platters

An evening filled with the classic sounds of the 50's and 60's.  Everyone looks forward to seeing this show.  It's one of my favorites! The Coasters perform a string of hits that contain humorous material we all remember.

The Platters have never stopped performing and selling out wherever they go.  The Platters recorded just under 400 songs and have sold over 80 million records.

The Drifters linked 50's rhythm & blues with 60's soul music.  They epitomized the vocal group sound of New York City.  Theirs was the sweet but streetwise sound of R&B with the right blend of gospel influences.

Gold Studios Destroyed By Fire

WMIR-FM was impacted by the devisataing fire that destroyed several office spaces on the Parkway Professional Building, at the corner of Grissom Parkway and 48th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.

The fire ravaged our offices and studios shortly after 8pm on Tuesday, October 26, resulting in the loss of audio and broadcast capabilities for almost 24 hours. While our studios are a complete loss, we managed to patch audio from our Bolivia, North Carolina transmitter location to our Myrtle Beach and Georgetown transmitter locations. This means that while we do not have a physical sstudio right now, we are still able to broadcast remotely.

While our FM signals have returned, we are not able to stream on the iHeart Radio App or our website for the time being. However, you can listen to our sister station WHGM Gold, located in Maryland, also on the iHeart Radio App HERE.

We would like to thank the first responders from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department who worked tirelessly through the night and into the next morning to extinguish the flames and assist businesses tenants in retrieving items from their offices.
